AUGUST 27, 2017 - MINTO - 22BR and SPORTER - RESULTS

It was Sunday after Florenceville and some of us were quite tired from the shooting and travelling of the day before. But we all looked forward to getting together with good shooting friends and to shooting one of the last
regularly scheduled 22BR matches of the year.

The weather was just plain marvelous with lots of sun, a little nip to the air in the morning which warmed up nicely in the early afternoon. The wind was quite tricky coming from several directions during the match. The best strategy was to wait for your best condition and to hold over when needed. It was difficult to shoot many Xs but if you shot carefully 10s were very possible. As a result, 2 shooters attained a perfect 400 score. Congratulations to Cecil H. who won the open match with 400/20X and to Matt McA. who came second with a 400/15X.

Today, Wayne K. was the match director and scorer with George M. and Carl J. providing the verification of scoring and stats. Bill H., Barb J., Matt McA., John McC. and Bert deV. were the range officers. The targets were set and changed by Bert deV., Dave C., Guy H., Barb J., George M., Cecil H., Bruce B., John McC. and Gerard D. There was a cornucopia of treats provided by Barb J. and Bruce B. Thanks to all who help out today to make this shoot an enjoyable one.

AUGUST 26, 2017 - FLORENCEVILLE - 22BR and SPORTER

It was a wonderful weekend with a little bit of fall in the air - especially in the  morning as we drove up to Florenceville. It was cloudy and quite dark in the Hartland area and there was a prediction for rain but this did not materialize.
Instead, the conditions were excellent for seeing the targets with even light and no bright sun. The wind was quite strong at times, and this was very noticeable in the "shallow bowl" shape of the Florenceville rimfire 50m
range. The wind would swirl so that the flags gave very different readings depending on their location on the range.
It was a very enjoyable shoot with a good number of competitors present. Welcome to new-comers who clearly enjoyed both the shooting and the excellent lunch provided by Jean S. Thank you so very much Jean. Thanks also to Dorothy McC. for her wonderful chocolate chip cookies.
Jean S. was also the match director. The scoring was done by Ash P. and Greg S. while the whole group looked on. I think we might have been a little bit of a nuisance at times - sorry about that. But we were very eager to see the results of this hotly contested shoot. Greg R. was the Range Officer. Everyone went forward to change their own targets. Thanks to everyone for helping out!
The Open Class and Sporter Class targets were shot at the same time depending on the availability of a bench. Open Class consisted of 25 scoring rounds fired in 20 minutes - for 3 targets (HPS = 750/75X). Sporter Class consisted of 20 scoring rounds also fired in 20 minutes and also on 3 targets (HPS = 600/60X). As you can see below, some very nice targets were shot despite the tricky wind.

RESULTS - OPEN CLASS:
Bert deV. - 688/8X
John McC. - 669/5X
Jean S. - 649/4X
Greg S. - 640/2X

Judy  - 587/2X

RESULTS - SPORTER CLASS:

Gabriel H. - 593/27x
John McC. - 592/25X

AUGUST 26, 2017 - FLORENCEVILLE - CF BR AND PRONE - RESULTS

The afternoon weather, when we shot the centerfire match in Florenceville, was quite a bit different from the morning when we shot the 22 BR matches. The sun was out sporadically peeking out from dark clouds. We still did not have any rain - a good thing when you are lying in a field with no covered firing point. The wind continued quite strongly but was very consistently from 11:00 to 12:00 o'clock. Not much of a factor in our shoot compared to our rusty technique shooting MTR.
This match was shot on the 200m range with shooters choosing to shoot prone or off one of the benches. There were two prone shooters who shot 308s and 3 bench shooters who shot a 6.5mm and .223s. It was quite a handicap that we had a wind flag at about 150m but none closer to the targets so we didn't really know what the wind was doing in the open area closer to the targets.
The match Director for this match was Ash P. Ash P. and Bert deV. were the scorers. Everyone took turns walking to the targets to change them. Thirty shots were fired for score and unlimited sighters were allowed at the beginning (HPS = 300/30X). A front rest or bipod was allowed but no rear bag could be used.

RESULTS - CENTERFIRE PRONE:
Ash P. - 274/4X
Bert deV. - 272/2X

RESULTS - CENTERFIRE BR:
Steven F. - 286/4X
Greg S. - 263/3X
John McC. - 259/3X

AUGUST 20, 2017 - PETITCODIAC - RIMFIRE BR - RESULTS

Hello fellow bench rest enthusiasts.
It was a rainy drive to the range today but the rain stopped just short of the range property and stayed away till
about half-way through the
final relay. We had 13 shooters turn out for the event today. The wind was weird as the right side of the range had wind flags spinning and turning vigorously while the left side had “no real noticeable” winds at the same time. BUT.. the left hand tree line showed wind at half-way up the trees that would definitely throw a shot off course from time to time. Still there was some very nice shooting with 2 shooters attaining 500 scores today. Congratulations to Cecil and Dan who shot a 500/32X and 500/18X respectively. The “X” counts were very high today also.
Once again we had more great treats than we could eat thanks to Barb J. and Dan G.
This was the last rimfire bench-rest shoot of the regular season at Petitcodiac. The next event, four weeks down the road (September 17 2017) will be the Martin F. Topf Championship. See you all there!
The following people made the day another success. Thank you all! Dan G. – match director / scorer; John McC. – score verifier; Bruce B., Darryl K. – RO duties; John McC., Barb J., Cecil H., Bruce B. – target changers; Darryl K. - photographer; John McC. - Reporting.

AUGUST 13, 2017 - MINTO - CENTERFIRE BR and SPORTER - RESULTS

This Sunday began with the 3rd quarterly meeting of the Minto Gun Club. After moving along briskly under the chairmanship of vice-president Wayne K., we were ready to begin today's shooting at about 11:00am.
It was a warm and humid day in Minto for this Centerfire shoot. The rain held off for almost the entire match but the sky turned black for the last relay and with thunder and lightning, we had a downpour to finish the day. The pistol
shoot was cancelled because of this and also because of the time - about 4:00pm before all was done. Luckily, we had relatively easy winds from start to finish although they did pick up a bit toward the end. As a result we had some pretty good shooting with congratulations going to John McC. who shot a perfect 300/17X in Open Class.

The match director was John McC. and the scoring was done by Bruce B. with Bill H. verifying the scoring. Range officers were Dan G., John McC., Bill H., Norbert S., Wayne K. and Bert deV. Targets were set and changed by Guy H., John McC., Tony L., George M., Bert deV., Dan G., Volker T. and Bruce B. The treats were brought by John McC. (thanks Dorothy!) AUGUST 6, 2017 - PETITCODIAC CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

The morning started out with ominous weather. Thunderstorms and showers were prevalent throughout the southern part of the province in early hours. But, as the start of the shoot became closer, the storms disappeared, the sky was still overcast, and the rain disappeared.
Winds were light to moderate, but twitchy. TemperaTures ran from 19 up to 24 degrees C. Good enough to shoot!

There were no 300 scores shot today, but some came close. Normally, there would have been more shooters on
the firing line, but several were not able to make it.

RESULTS - CENTERFIRE BR OPEN CLASS:
John McC - 299/18X
Matt A. - 299/16X
John Mo. - 298/13X
Volker T. - 293/7X
Tony L. - 290/5X
Norbert S. - 289/6X
Shelly C. - 288/6X
Dan G. - 288/6X
John C. - 285/9X

Thanks to all for the tasty treats and helping out with the Range Supervision and target work.

Thanks to Volker T., Match Director, for the results and the pictures.
