MARCH 26, 2017 - MINTO CENTERFIRE BR & SPORTER RIFLE - RESULTS

It was a lovely day for a shoot in Minto although the day started out a bit cold with temperatures in the -9C range. The sun was out in full force and as the day wore on, it did warm up quite a bit and it was really pleasant on the leeward side of the buildings.

It was the wind - not unexpectedly for Minto - that was the real story behind our shooting today. It was quite strong most of the time although very different in different places on the range. Near the shooting building it
seemed to run from left to right quite strongly and steadily. Flags in this area of the range did not help out much to predict the point of impact on the targets. Further down the range, flags indicated a head wind that switched from 11 o'clock to 2 o'clock and a flag in the middle of the range seemed to be the best indicator of wind effects. At any rate the effect on the target could be as much as an inch and a half as we discovered much to our chagrin.

Today's shoot was run by
match director John McC. Scoring was done by Don M. and Wayne K. verified the scores. Targets were set and changed by Dave C., John McC. and George M.,(who kindly volunteered to help with this while he was waiting for the handgun shoot to begin). ROs today, were Bruce B.,
Dave C., Wayne K. and Bert deV. Tony L. brought some of Shelly's delicious squares. Thanks to all.

MARCH 19, 2017 - PETITCODIAC CENTERFIRE BR - RESULTS

Greetings fellow Benchrest shooting enthusiasts.

The weather in New Brunswick, I'm happy to report, is starting to be a bit more enjoyable. On this day-before-the-first-day-of-spring it was just about as nice as it could get in March and still be winter. Lots of snow still on the ground but the temperatures were getting warm - on the plus side of the scale. Also, during the first relay, there was absolutely no wind and the sun was very bright. Shooters on the first relay had some difficulty with glare and mirage.

As the day progressed, the wind did pick up a bit but it was not a strong factor in our shooting. It also clouded over and so the sun didn't remain much of a factor either.

We all had a great time thanks to all the people who lent a hand to make this shoot possible. The match director was Volker T. who also did the scoring. Dan G. was the score verifier. The ROs for the day included Darryl K., John McC., Dan G. and Bert deV. Targets were set and changed by John McC., Chris S., Brian P., Cecil H., Logan G. and Dan G. The irresistible treats were brought by Shelly C. and Dan G. Thanks to everyone!

MARCH 12, 2017 - MINTO 22 BR - RESULTS

Thanks to John McC. for this write-up and to Barb J. for the pictures.

Hello fellow shooting enthusiasts!
It was a brutally cold day at the March 12th Minto rim fire shoot. The temperature
was -20C and the wind dropped it down enough to cause bare fingers to freeze in minutes. The wind was very gusty today and constantly changing directions at high speed. It made for a challenging day for sure as the scores reflect! Once again the new club house saved the day with a warm place to stay between rounds!
I would like to thank all the people who came out to support the Minto gun club today. It took sheer determination to get from the comfortable house, into a cold car then get back out into the cold to shoot.
Here’s hoping Guy H., Dave C. and Bert deV. recover from their colds and are able to rejoin us at the next match.
As usual all the players today pitched in to make this a very successful meet. As I spent little time inside today and I don’t want to miss anyone I will just thank everyone who was there! All contributed in help, food, scoring etc!
Congratulations to Barb J with her second silver medal in two weeks in the open class. Well done Barb!

MARCH 5, 2017 - PETITCODIAC 22BR - RESULTS

Today, in Petitcodiac, we shot in what was probably the most challenging conditions any of us had encountered before on this range. It was cold (we started out at 15 below 0C) and even though the temperatures increased a bit
over the run of the match, it seemed colder because the wind just kept on blowing. Sometimes it blew very hard (Dave said over 45km/hr) and then it was a penetrating cold where you didn't know if your finger was actually on the trigger or not. Sometimes it let up for a second or two - no word of a lie - the wind was that changeable. It did not last more than a few seconds in a certain condition before it was off in a totally different direction. If there was ever a match where you waited and waited for the condition to return this was it. Some shooters used every minute of the available time and even then the last few shots were a guess.
The scores reflected the very difficult conditions - every shooter had holes in the 5, 6 or 7 ring (if not worse). On top of the wind there was the glare of the sun on ice and snow - much less a concern than the wind though. Despite these
conditions a few very respectable targets were shot - kudos to those who had one of those. As is usual at our shoots, we all had a very good time. Treats brought by Barb J., Shelly C. and Dan G. went a long way to ward off frustration and tears. Volker T. was back from his trip and was the Match Director and chief scorer with Shelly C. verifying the scoring. The target changers were John McC., Dan G. and Brian P. (forgive me if I missed anyone - I was probably warming up and didn't see everything). The Range Officers were John McC., Dan G. and Darryl K. Barb J. and Darryl K. were the photographers today. Thanks everyone, for pitching in to help out even though it was so cold.
